So I have had a little break from the blog and apologies if you have been waiting patiently to hear something new. Mounting weekly workload and a very nasty illness has been in the way rather and looking at a computer screen has been the last thing on my mind. However, I now have lots to report, although I would like to say that some information will have to be kept back since I do not wish to give too much away about our wonderful production this December.
First of all, many thanks to Marissa for her fantastic work in the first three weeks of term. The students all learned a great deal and while she is in panto in Southampton around the time of our production, I have no doubt she will receive word on how valuable her input has been. But with Marissa departing meant that Nina has returned and the students showed that they had missed her by performing exceptionally well. I was delighted to listen in on most sessions this term and commendations have to be given already to Jenni, Isobel, Niamh and Millie for singing solos and duets so beautifully. It is a brave thing to sing alone so well done. Likewise with the youngest group, all of whom took turns singing alone – you are all much stronger than I ever could be!
Karlina and Helen have been putting all three groups through their paces and the routines that are forming are really spectacular. Formations are being kept, new moves students didn’t think they could do are being achieved and timing and teamwork are clearly top of the agenda. I won’t give too much away but the dances will all make up spectacular sections of the show.
And Mr T has given students some NY scenes and improvisations are being carried out week on week until a script of sorts has been formed. All three groups have shown such aptitude for comic timing, working together and understanding spatial awareness that I have no doubt these vignettes will provide the audience with much laughter and enjoyment.
I will continue to write intermittently throughout the term and update all readers on students’ progress. Let it be said now however that rehearsals are underway and Studio 1 is preparing for a truly fantastic night this December. And in case you were wondering, tickets will be on sale after half term, so be sure to get ready to call quickly as I have a feeling it might just sell out…★
